HTTP Server

Postby mp537 » Tue Oct 01, 2013 8:15 am

NetApp filers use HTTP as opposed to TFTP to perform software loads over the network. Including a small HTTP server inside of GetConsole would completely eliminate the need for a laptop. Couple this with the AirConsole...getting delivered tomorow :D and I never need a laptop in the datacenter again.

We can consider it in next round of development, however right now can you run another HTTP server app on your iPad/iPhone to serve up your Netapp files? ie, invoke the HTTP download from Get Console terminal session, then background Get Console and launch your HTTP server app (i am sure there are some available from app store) to deliver the netapp files?

If that works then we would be a lot more confident that we could then integrate a small HTTP server into Get Console.

Thanks
Simon

I've tried a few http servers already however as soon as I background them, they stop serving. I could try it the other way where I start the download and quickly switch to an http server, hoping that the download doesn't fail before I can get the server started.
The one problem with that is that I'll never know when the download is done because as soon as I switch back to console, it'll stop the http server and the download will fail.

Not sure why I didn't think of this before. Here's a work around for an included http server.
If you have an airconsole and an iphone along with the iPad, you can use the iPad for GetConsole and your iPhone for the HTTP server. Your iPad and iPhone will both be on the AirConsole wifi network. That way you can host the files from a mini http server on your phone while using GetConsole on the iPad.

We have included an HTTP server in Get Console 2.21 that has just gone to Apple for review - should hopefully be in App store next week

Thanks
Simon
