Remote USB

Postby R4+Z » Tue Oct 01, 2013 1:34 am

I use a communications package that communicates via a USB connection. Would it be possible to use the Airconsole without the UART cable to be a remote USB connection? and is there any software available that would facilitate this?

Actually Airconsole will work already with many USB management ports - ie like the USB management ports on Cisco devices work fine as enumerate to an emulated serial port over USB in the device itself rather than the UART in the bundled light blue cable doing it.

Just connect a USB to mini-USB cable to Airconsole USB port and mini-USB end to Cisco usb management port and click connect. I suspect, but havent tested that this will work for many devices that use USB to manage them, if their management interface is a CLI / terminal type interface. Airconsole runs on linux 2.6.21 and we have included a bunch of generic USB drivers in the package. Generally when you connect up a plain USB cable between Airconsole USB port and your devices USB management port, the device will present as generic serial port that airconsole will map to a tty and then present to your terminal app over IP.

The baud/flow control etc settings are basically ignored in this mode.

Try it, if it doesnt work you can just return your Airconsole for a refund.

Thanks
