It only works with the official Apple 30 pin to lightning adaptor. 3rd party adaptors dont pass all the pins needed through to the Apple Lightning port - they only do Power and USB typically. C2-RJ45 needs serial pins as well.
However now there is a native L2-RJ45V cable available that works natively with Lightning ports on iPad mini / iPhone 5 etc. Or get Airconsole that works with everything.
