Redpark C2-DB9 - Good for Hobbyists - NOT for Get Console

Postby sergey » Fri Aug 12, 2011 11:06 pm

Redpark have recently released a new cable called C2-DB9 Cable. We carry it in our shop - but BE WARNED - it DOES NOT WORK with Get Console App at this time due to Apple's policy. We thought it would which is why we bought some to sell - It may do in the future, but with the current version 1.50 it will NOT. If you require a DB9 presentation with your Get Console terminal app, then purchase the C2-RJ45 cable and the additional RJ45-DB9 adapter for an extra $4.00

The C2-DB9 cable is designed for hobbyists and developers that want to make adhoc software for distribution OUTSIDE of the app store. Apple's policy at the moment is that the C2-DB9 cable cannot be used with any app for sale in the App store.

I'm pretty sure if you have C2-DB9 working now, it will STOP working in iOS 5 :( this is because Apple have a much stricter External Accessory check in iOS5 - and the hack we were using to make C2-DB9 work doesn't work anymore. Best to stick to C2-RJ45 cable with a dongle. If you need to swap a C2-DB9 for a C2-RJ45 then please contact me directly. Thanks. Simon.

Hmmm - ive just tested it with the official apple iOS 5.0.1 and seems to work again. You still get a popup saying this accessory needs an app, but ignoring that and starting get-console it detects and uses C2-DB9. Not sure how long it will stay like this, so our advice is still to use C2-RJ45 and buy a $4 dongle to convert to DB9 presentation.

Hi Mirenna

Are you trying with the C2-DB9 or C2-RJ45? Also are you using v1.63 of Get Console. I think Apple have re-implemented the stricter check again. We'll see what we can do in v1.64, but as previously stated, the only supported way to get DB9 presentation is via the C2-RJ45 cable and a converter dongle. Stupid I know.

If you bought the cable from us you can swap it but you will have to pay for the freight again. PLease send a mail to simon@get-console.com to arrange it.
Thanks
Simon
