HP Procurve 2910/2920

Postby Jimmy1987 » Mon Nov 02, 2015 4:24 am

does anyone know if the air console also works with the hp procurve 2910/2920 switches? As 90% of our network consists of these switches.

Hi Jimmy,

I have no direct experience but the following post may be useful: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=929&p=1316&hilit=procurve#p1316

The cable supplied with the Airconsole is pinned out for Cisco console ports. Apparently the Procurve has a slightly different pinout - see http://andkorn.org/blog/2013/05/08/hp-p ... le-pinout/ for details. You would need a way to adapt the cable from Cisco pinout to HP Procurve pinout (e.g. an adapter of some sort)

Unfortunately that would mean the air console is useless for us as 90% of all our equipment won't work, Procurve/H3C all use the same version cables.

Could you chop off the airconsole's rj45 plug and re-terminate it with a new one but with the correct HP wiring? Basically turning the cable into an HP compatible one?

Another option is to use the airconsole's RJ45 to RS232 adapter, and plug into that your existing HP rs232 to rj45 lead. That wouldn't be very neat, but you'd get the wireless functionality .

I know this is about a month old and I apologize if this is a late response. Don't get on this site much.

I can confirm for you that I work with primarily nothing but Procurve hardware and I've never had an issue Airconsole working with these. As of recent we have been purchasing nothing but 2920's and I haven't had a issue. Here is a list of all the Procurves I've used them on and they work fine in case you just want some sort of reference. If you have any questions feel free to ask but I'd highly recommend Airconsole to any that ask and even with the wide variety of stuff I work on with console ports I've never had an issue getting one to work.
